			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you&#8217;ve read my previous blog posts hopefully you are getting disabused (realize that something is not true) of the false idea that fat people are fat because &#8220;they eat WAY too much.&#8221;</p>
<p>I used to believe that (as I was eating 10 times more food and more calories then anybody else was) (without ever gaining a single ounce).  I used to think they must be real pigs (as I ate everything in sight).</p>
<p>I couldn&#8217;t understand what they were doing to get fat as I couldn&#8217;t even put on an ounce.  (yes I was one of those guys) (couldn&#8217;t put on weight no matter what)  These fat people must be totally gluttonous (one who eats to excess).</p>
<p>These people are not pigs they are not gluttonous, the truth is:</p>
<p><strong>those  fat people weren&#8217;t doing anything.</strong></p>
<p>They were worrying about their size and their health and watching their caloric intake while I was the one who was eating out of control with never a worry in the world about what I ate.</p>
<p>If calories had ANYTHING to do with it they would have benn the skinny ones and I would have been the fat one&#8230; IF calories had ANYTHING to do with it.</p>
<p>This is hard core PROOF that calories are NOT the reason for weight gain.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not proof?  Maybe I&#8217;m just making this up?  Fair enough.</p>
<p>Then did you see Michael Phelps during the Olympics consuming the hugest meal you ever saw?  That was a usual and customary meal for him.</p>
<p>&#8220;Yes but he&#8217;s an athlete.&#8221;  Ok fair enough.  Then do this:</p>
<p>Next time you eat at a public place locate the skinniest person in the place (male or female) and watch what they eat.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s your proof.  They will eat more then the fattest guy in the place.</p>
<p>They just burn it off as fast as they consume it.</p>
<p>So why is that?  Why is it that some people remain very skinny in spite of what they eat?</p>
<p>I just told you.  They burn it off as fast as they consume it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When I got out of high school I was 6 ft 2 inches and weighed 176 pounds.  I was a tall toothpick.</p>
<p>And I had a ferocious appetite and ate tons of food on a daily basis.  I ate 3 times as much as any fat person ate.  More then 3 times as much.  And I didn&#8217;t put on a single ounce for over 20 years.</p>
<p>Does that sound like calories make you fat?</p>
<p>If calories make you fat why was I was eating 3 times as many calories as any fat person and yet I was as skinny as a toothpick.  There is obviously something wrong with this theory.</p>
<p>If you are fat it is not because you eat like a pig.</p>
<p>We all know people who &#8220;seem&#8221; to eat like pigs but never gain weight.  They don&#8217;t &#8220;seem&#8221; to eat like pigs.  The DO eat like pigs and never gain an ounce.  I know because I was one of them.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve heard some people say they can&#8217;t put on weight.  It&#8217;s true I was one of them and I ate like a pig without ever putting on weight.</p>
<p>Are you getting the idea?</p>
<p>Some people are able to eat huge amounts of calories every single day of the year, plenty of sweets too, and never get fat.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s NOT calories that make you fat it&#8217;s something else.</p>

<p><strong>Calories have nothing to do with obesity.</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>So what does cause obesity?  Do I think there are genes that make you fat?  Yes genetics CAN  make make you fat.</p>
<p>FTO, a so-called &#8220;obesity gene&#8221; is found in half the population.  And those with 2 copies of the gene are 70% more likely to be obese than noncarriers.</p>
<p>The good news is:  research shows that you can overcome your genetic predisposition for obesity.</p>
<p>Researchers studying a group of more than 700 Amish people found that the FTO gene had no effect on those that were physically active. There was almost no difference between those who had the gene and those that didn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Take a cue from the Amish and increase your activity levels by walking, gardening and moderate exercise.</p>
<p>Even small changes can make a difference.</p>

<p>P.S.  Oh, research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine also had the same conclusion:  People with the FTO gene can prevent weight gain by exercising.</p>

<p>So then what happened?</p>
<p>A lady came into my office one day and said something I never ever heard before: “hey you’ve put on some weight.” Huh? Really? I couldn’t believe it.</p>
<p>It was true I was putting on weight.</p>
<p>For the first time in my life I started worring about caloric intake and I even stared reducing them. The result…</p>
<p>I got heavier.</p>
<p><span> </span>I got more serious about my caloric intake and began watching what I ate at every single meal and for the first time in my life…</p>
<p>I swelled up. Me the toothpick. I BECAME FAT.</p>
<p>I was now eating a very small fraction of what I was eating when I was skinny and I was getting fatter and fatter and fatter.</p>
<p>People would see me and think I was a pig that needed to take the fork out of my mouth and get a life.</p>

Sure that&#8217;s straight foward  language for a health and fitness blog.  But to describe it otherwise would be inaccurate and wouldn&#8217;t do it justice.  You know what I mean you&#8217;ve suffered greatly with this outdated and unworkable theory.</p>
<p>It never has worked and never will.</p>
<p>How do I know?  Because I&#8217;m an expert on the subject.  What makes me the expert?  Well&#8230;</p>
<p>Have you ever seen a guy that was skin and bone eat a meal?  They eat like a bird right?  WRONG.  They eat like a pig.  Again how do I know?  What makes me an expert?  Well because&#8230;</p>
<p>I WAS THAT GUY.  I kept my high school weight (extremely thin) (it was exactly 176 pounds) (and I&#8217;m a giant over 6 feet tall) (yes we&#8217;re talking skinny) for over 20 years after high school without putting on a single ounce <strong>and&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong>I ATE LIKE A PIG ALL DAY LONG EVER DAY OF THE WEEK during those 20 plus years.</strong></p>
